Sergio Zappella and Arthur Schmed started Saeco in 1981 in the small Apennine town of Gaggio Montano, Bologna. The company brought out the first fully automatic household coffee machine in 1985. It acquired other coffee machine brands to eventually secure its leadership position in the international market. Today, it is the leading manufacturer not only in Italy but also in all of Europe.
Saeco's continuous striving for technological and design innovation is the main driver of its success. The company has managed to successfully anticipate and respond appropriately to the changing needs of the customers. The 1980s saw dramatic changes in lifestyle. Making and drinking coffee was no exception. The new-age consumer wanted a blend of convenience and elegance. This meant even the ubiquitous coffee maker had to be a style statement. Saeco’s designers studied trends carefully to bring out products that precisely met this requirement.
In every machine made by Saeco, there is a harmonious fusion of design and technology. The Italian aesthetic complements performance to give a unique character. The machines are easy to use. There is now a heightened concern about re-usable components. Hence, Saeco’s machines come with renewable brewing units that undergo chemical-free cleansing. This means Saeco machines last longer and give endless cups of steaming coffee to perk up the aficionados. |
