Emeco

Emeco produces handcrafted aluminum chairs that are both functional and aesthetically designed. They began in 1944 in partnership with ALCOA to develop a seaworthy chair for use in the US Navy. Made in close collaboration with military engineers, the resulting Navy chair was lightweight, durable, and as legend has it, strong enough to survive a torpedo blast. Given the 150 years that all Emeco products are guaranteed for, the original chairs produced for battle in WWII are still under warranty today.

All Emeco chairs are handcrafted out of 80% recycled aluminum, making them three times as strong as chairs made of steel. Their hand-brushed finish only improves with age, and they remain rust-free, so you can use them both in- and outdoors without any maintenance.

Emeco is committed to placing environmental concerns at the forefront of design. Chairs made out of virgin aluminum have an energy density that is 17 times higher than that of Emeco chairs. And whilst all products are 100% recyclable, what is perhaps of greater significance is the estimated lifespan of 150 years or more, making each chair a sound investment to use and enjoy for a lifetime.

Emeco's history has seen them receive an impressive amount of critical acclaim. The famous Hudson chair, designed by Phillipe Stark, is included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art, and was selected by the Chicago Athenaeum as one of the top 100 designs for 2000. Their designs are featured everywhere from prestigious restaurants to modern art galleries, from government offices to the sets of famous TV shows. Each chair is a one-piece sculptured masterpiece, made without hardware, there are no connections, all one piece; the result of combining the best materials with the highest skilled craftsmen.
