Chilewich design and manufacture table runners, placemats, flooring and accessories with a difference. Founder and creative director Sandy Chilewich has always enjoyed experimenting with different materials, and when she discovered woven vinyl she knew it would be the start of a long and fruitful relationship. Here was a textile that was durable, versatile, easy to maintain, and which had an attractive sheen to it to boot. The design possibilities seemed endless. In 2001 Chilewich launched Plynyl®, a development of woven vinyl which proved to be a groundbreaking innovation in the textile industry, winning numerous awards and consolidating Chilewich’s reputation the world over.
The passion for experimentation which drives Chilewich is clearly evident in their catalog. Here one can choose between a world of colours, shapes, and also textures; textures which reference anything from wood grain to coral, from basket weave to tuxedo stripes. This variety of styles means there truly is something for every occasion, but the different products are united by a subtle elegance that still manages to be playful.
Good design harmonises style with function, and Chilewich have the formula mastered. Their success lies in their ability to create pieces that appear delicate, but which are easy to clean and able to last a lifetime. These products will happily endure kids, pets, spills and whatever else you might throw at them. Safety has also been kept in mind, with a non-skid surface applied to the underneath of all rugs. |
