Cherner Chair

Norman Cherner emerged out of a generation of designers who applied post-war technological innovations in the world of industrial design and architecture. Though his multi-disciplinary approach touched on almost all fields of design, he was best known for his work in the high-end furniture sector. His longest lasting legacy is undoubtedly the molded plywood Cherner armchair, first manufactured in 1958. Its iconic design is featured in galleries and design collections worldwide.
Benjamin and Thomas Cherner followed their father into the world of architecture and design. After countless requests from their contemporaries to see their father's designs reissued, they formed the Cherner Chair Company in 1999. Since then they have brought back into production many of their father's most popular chairs, stands and tables, always using the original drawings and specifications. The current reissued furniture retains the quality and affordability of the initial pieces, made possible by combining the original handmade craftsmanship with the latest in manufacturing technology.
Looking at the Cherner collection today, it is easy to see how these chairs have become classics of designer furniture. Whilst the minimalist forms give a distinctly modernist impression, the organic character of the wood is utilized fully, both in the sweeping lines and the warm hues. Cherner Chairs are stylish, elegant and durable. Manufactured to last, they will prove an investment to cherish. |
